Notes on an Execution by Danya Kukafka
Crime Thriller; 2022
Deconstruct the horror inflicted by serial killer Ansel Packer through the eyes of the females involved in his case
Through their eyes, we see the parts they played in his life and how he got to his end….death row
We are introduced to him 12 hours before he is supposed to be executed for crimes committed against 3 women.
He doesn’t want to die. He wants to be celebrated and understood.
Instead of focusing on the killer himself, we focus on the women affected by one man seeking control and glory for his actions
His mother, a sister, and a homicide detective help shed light on Ansel’s life from their own perspectives and interactions with him.
Each woman struggles with their own internal conflicts, which in some ways connect back to Ansel.
Take a seat and explore the narrative of America’s obsession with serial killers and how we glorify them in our need to understand them while simultaneously condemning them for their atrocities. Are we giving them exactly what they want?
